Having opened their doors early in October, this new vegan eatery in the heart of London’s elegant Sloane Square boasts a varied and exciting 100% plant-based menu. From their chilli ‘non’ carne, a smoky dish made of lentils, mushrooms and beans served atop herbed rice with cashew sour cream to their spicy mango vermicelli noodles with avocado, sugar snaps, fresh coriander and black sesame seeds, this is a vegan menu to get excited about.
With a slogan boasting ‘fiercely kind food’ and a head chef (Franco Casolin) formerly of popular vegetarian restaurant, Vanilla Black, fame, Wulf and Lamb have almost got it right.

Whilst the menu is extensive and yes, it was especially exciting to actually have an entire menu to peruse rather than the two or three specifically marked vegan options, for me the choice was simple. It was always going to be a choice between their two burgers; The Wulf Burger and their Spicy Veg Burger.

I decided to go for the spicy vegetable burger and a side of Mac ‘n’ Cheese… of course. Now I will start by saying that so far this may just be the best vegan mac and cheese I have tried. I know that is a HUGE statement so I don’t say this lightly but as of yet I have not tried one that tops this. With a golden and crunchy top and perfectly creamy pasta I would genuinely go back to Sloan Square purely for this little dish of gooey greatness.

However….
As a burger aficionado, I admit my standards are set pretty darn high but the Spicy Veg Burger left me feeling a little underwhelmed. Well presented on an attractive, olive wooden serving board with a side of chunky wedges and sauerkraut, I was rather excited when the waitress started heading towards our table. However, the burger itself was average. It was good, don’t get me wrong – it tasted good and with the sauerkraut and wedges all stacked inside it was really good but as a stand alone burger without the extras…. Meh. Again, like I said, I am a burger snob. So if you are looking for a hearty vegan burger in West London then I would recommend trying it but make sure you get a side of the mac ‘n’ cheese so you aren’t disappointed with your visit.
Oh and my boyfriend had the Wulf Burger which is seitan based and we both agreed mine was the better of the two…

Finally, Wulf and Lamb have cleverly partnered with a bakery making its name in the vegan world; Ruby’s of London. Serving their freshly baked goods within this restaurant is a smart collaboration and one I was overly excited about. However, along with burgers, I am a BIG fan of the blueberry muffin and will admit that it is one of the few things I have not found a delicious, vegan alternative for (yet!)
So when I saw them behind the counter here, naturally I was excited and I asked the kind staff to reserve me one for desert before I had even seen the menu. Again, I was disappointed. The muffin tasted dusty. Now that may sound like a strange way to describe food but it is the best way to genuinely explain what it felt and tasted like. I guess floury would also work. So, I would not recommend this muffin unfortunately but I would recommend checking Ruby’s out yourself and trying something else!
So all in all I would give Wulf and Lamb a solid 7/10. If you are ever in West London and are craving some mac ‘n’ cheese or the ease of a fully plant based menu then this is the place for you but if you are looking for a top notch, vegan burger I would head elsewhere.
