Right next to Shoreditch train station is the much loved BOXPARK, a pop up shopping centre constructed using refitted shipping containers. With an eclectic mix of lifestyle brands, food, art and fashion, BOXPARK is a popular hang out spot as well as a creative hub. Placing local and global brands side-by-side, BOXPARK has created a unique shopping and dining experience and is definitely worth checking out.
One of the most popular dining spots at BOXPARK is the vegan pop up, Cook Daily. Serving freshly cooked, delicious bowls of vegan goodness, which are so full of flavour it is no wonder The Guardian has heralded this spot as the ‘unofficial headquarters for a new tribe of proud vegan.’
With lunch queues tripling the size of anywhere else, Cook Daily is fast becoming East London’s go-to destination for vegan grub.
The chef behind the fast-growing eatery, King Cook, is an East Londoner with a background in traditional food. King has worked in many high-end kitchens, including Vanilla Black, London’s Michelin recommended vegetarian restaurant. This would explain why his kitchen boasts fresh food and does not use slow cookers or deep fat fryers. King is all about flavour but is also a stickler for quality.
With an unspecified cuisine style, Cook Daily’s menu boasts incredible food with flavours from all over the world including Thailand and the Caribbean.
King Cook Daily is not just popular with vegans. Meat-eaters are also flocking to the two by three metre pop-up to join the queue. The Vegan Society released a survey in 2016 which informed us that there had been a 350% rise in the number of UK based vegans in the past decade. I strongly believe King Cook Daily is helping that number rise by showing people that vegan food can be tasty, moreish and extremely exciting.
With endorsements coming from many UK based celebrities such as Emilie Sande, and specifically those within the UK grime scene such as regular customers, JME and Professor Green, it is no wonder that the love for this place isn’t slowing down. If you haven’t tried it, you really should. THE HYPE IS REAL.
I went for the dish Yoga Fire which is a sweet potato and spiced chickpea veggie curry with turmeric and dhal, simmered in golden coconut milk and served over brown rice. This may be the best vegan meal I have EVER had. I tell no lie. I also paid an extra £3 and got myself some mini, veggie spring rolls with a pot of the famous ‘High Grade’ sauce and a spinach and kale smoothie.

When I ordered, the girl behind the counter told me I had made a wise choice and that was her favourite out of all 10 options which was a comforting endorsement. I would HIGHLY recommend this dish! Go, try, enjoy and let me know what you go for.
